She started NYU in September and is making me pretend like she went far-away to school. Apparently those are her very cute friends. I think it's important to note, she is also wearing a necklace you can barely see in these photos, but wears it everyday, from my pal Melissa.

Come shopping with me s'il vous plait (I mean Merci)

First comes the flower shop, so overwhelmingly beautiful, I suggested I move in but the girl was busy cutting stems off some big coral dahlias and don't think she heard me. We are at Merci and just through the next door...
a walk into the central hall and many things to wish for...

I loved the jewels they carried although of course thought they needed some bonbons...

and then after looking carefully at every well chosen object in the shop and moved by the beautiful and thoughtfully curated collections, I sunk into the cafe, a part of the shop, for a bit of quiet time. I sketched a little and thought up some new ideas for some new graphics and packaging for bonbon and met four other designers there for fashion week and we talked about the shows and what we did and exchanged cards.Next time you are all coming with me.
Merci

Saturday at the Flea with Nice Package

On a blustery Satur-day at the Brooklyn Flea (jet-lag and all) Bonbon shared the red tent with EZ and Marichelle and their incredibly adorably fantastic new venture Nice Package. (See them there holding down the fort?)
I love love love what they're doing and could not resist a few packages of baker's twine (how can you not love that stuff?) and an awesome new bluish banner. I am secretly hoping we can share a stand together again soon so I get to spend some more time with those two. Oh and I also got to see one of my absolute favorite Melissas as well who, lucky for me, kind of comes nice with the whole package (so to speak)...

Thank you and Ladurée and Thank you Ladurée

Home and back to work, jet-lagged and with a little bit of a cold, but I'm not complaining. I actually lost weight in Paris but I still can't figure out how. Again, not complaining. I'm actually roasting a chicken with freshly picked carrots and haricots straight from here on this chilly fall day and thinking about my last afternoon in Paris after the show, when I went with Coco to Ladurée for, as Erin put it, l’heure du goûter...something charlotte with figs and miel and a pinkerdoodle dandy with chantilly cream and rosewater and a million sugarplum fairies or some such thing.
I also just want to say a great big thank you to my friends who blogged here while I was away and sending virtual a virtual Laduree sugar-high to them all... P, Amanda, Alexa, Mel, and Melissa and Erin...I loved their frenchie entries and it's always nice for me to be a guest in my own blog for a change...hope you scroll down if you haven't already and see their wonderfulness in all it's glory.

home and almost ready for real life after paris

Paris was trés trés bon-bon, a very successful trip for your intrepid reporter. Exciting new shops, prospects and many good food items brought home for my man, who couldn't join me this time. Saw my good friends and a little sad to leave until next time, but much much more to report this week. I saved you some macaron crumbs...love, deb

l'heure du goûter.
coucou, bonbons! this is erin from reading my tea leaves, here for a little visit into deb's sweet, sweet world while she digs deep into life in paris.
over the past week or so i've been thinking a lot about what little part of france i most wanted to write about. i finally decided that more than a certain food, or a specific place, my very favorite thing about france is a particular time. so brew a cup of tea, bonbons, and join me for l’heure du goûter.
i suppose if we get technical, the phrase translates to snack time, but if the term is conjuring images of ants-on-a-log or fruit roll-ups, then, as my dad says, we better stop while we're behind. think instead about a cup of hot tea, a bit of toast, a slab of milk chocolate. a table. some chairs. at four o'clock in the afternoon. l’heure du goûter.
ok, so maybe it's something that's really designed for the kiddos. at four o'clock they've just walked home from school and their little bellies need some filling. but for a girl with an insatiable sweet tooth and a constant hankering for a warm cup of something or another, the ritual is pure bliss--a little moment to reflect on the day, to gear up for the evening, to curb my hunger until dinnertime rolls around.
yes, at in four o'clock in the afternoon in france, i have had some of my favorite moments with some of my very favorite women. there is fabienne, who always made a pot of orange pekoe with milk and lump of sugar; valerie, who always prefers tisanes; marie, a lady grey through and through; marie-paule, who always let me choose my own adventure from her collection of triangular-shaped tea bags; the woman at the corner salon de thé in macon, who would tuck crisp nutmeg-flavored cookies underneath my teacup, and rachel, who i could get to sit with me for a little quelque-chose at just about any hour. so many lovely memories, all the result of taking just one little moment, at the end of an afternoon, to just be.
hoping you all have yourselves a real-life goûter this afternoon.
{p.s. for all of those non-frenchy speakers, the -er at the end of the word is pronounced like ay. superfluous information, i know, but i couldn't have you all walking around talking about how much you want to have a "gouter"...it just doesn't have quite the same touch...}. bisous.

Puppets vs Poppers
Guten morgen bonbons. Full disclosure: I am not really a blogger. I'm a photographer who happens to have a fun little website where I post my images and sometimes write brilliant words. I know our Bonbon back from my Brooklyn days but I currently live in Berlin (Oh Deb, so close yet so far away!).
So it being a Sunday and it being Berlin I very easily could have been doing one of two things this morning: A) crawling out of a techno club (the rumors you've heard about nightlife here are true) or B) watching surreal 40' marionettes march through the city streets (the rumors you've heard about hallucinogenics here are also true). I should point out that before last Sunday's national elections one prominent politician reminded the young people to get out and vote! Vote after you leave the club! Vote on your way home from 10 hours of mind numbing music!
I know, I know, I should be thinking about Paris but since yesterday was Tag der Einheit (Day of Reunification) celebrating when the East and West joined 19 years ago and since the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is just around the corner, I've got Berlin on my mind. Thankfully a French(!) street theater company named Royal de Luxe decided to mark the reunification by parading huge puppets through Berlin (thanks French people for allowing me to continue talking about my own life even while on a blog about beautiful things, precious objects and french fever).
Which brings me to the bizarre act of watching enormous puppets walk by the Reichstag. They were big and beautiful and expertly operated by a team of jumping pages (now top on my list of jobs I MUST do before I turn 30). I just wanted to share a taste of things you don't come across everyday, no matter where you live.
