Part Oaxaca Dos: Oh the Markets You'll See

Sorry pretty amazing French markets, swirling Moroccan and Turkish bazaars, Indian free-for alls, I think Oaxaca wins for best mercados, even the indoor ones. Especially the indoor ones with the seeping natural light seeping and the beautiful people who come to work everyday. The colors just blew me away, and like the obsessive I keep turning out to be, all I can think about is going back and maybe I should have gotten more clay cups and maybe I should start drinking chocolate everyday, get a juicer, relax a little more while I work even harder.

And from a display standpoint, bravo to all the merchants who enticed me with their awesome displays (you know who you are jugo lady).

  1. This trip looks amazing - the color is intoxicating, after all the winter brown and gray. And now I really want to go to Mexico to see the jugo lady!

  8. Oh boy oh boy oh boy I gotta go are. Hibiscus petals? I've always wanted to cook with them - they are really tart. I thought they were roses petals until your clever commenter said nay. Thank you for zooming in on the green things that Jim is staring at so helpfully. Aloes. What for? The chiles. Argh! Buckets of mole. It's killing me.

  12. Yes Marie, Terees, A relative of hibiscus..they call it Hamaica I think---make a tea out of it-supposed to be good for dieters but it's the total zinger in red zinger--very tart...i've been brewing it with some agave but you can use sugar or honey too to delicious effect!

and don't get me started about the molés....
