Quinault Country Store

Country stores make me wish I lived in the country. They really do. Camping food, fishing tackle, marionberry and huckleberry jam, souvenir leather pouches and jewelry made by the local folks. This one had a cafe in the back that was famous for cooking up some mean fish and chips and hamburgers--by the time we got in for lunch around 2, they had nothing left except salmon burgers. Whoever came in and ordered all those fish and chips and hamburgers don't know what they missed.

We ate ours next to the lake.

I love maps.

This one was up at the store with a sign to put in a pin to show where you came from. We looked at it while we waited for our lunch to come. It gave me some ideas for jewelry, all the little clusters of color. It made me want to put a big map of the world on my bedroom wall. I t inspired me to get some map pins and I almost did at an incredible map store in Seattle but I stopped myself since I don't have much more room on my walls for a giant world map. I could always get some anyway another time I guess, huh?

(p.s. we missed the beard and mustache competition by one day--aww man!)

1) Love the authentic banjo dude.
2) Save that great map idea! SOME day there will be the perfect space on a wall... in a kitchen, a bathroom, a basement. Someday.
3) My hubby makes that face ALL the time. "Did ya get the pic? Can I eat my burger now?"
4) Keep the vac. pics comin'!

That map - all the prickly colorful pins - wow. In a small space, it would be cool to make a globe you could stick the pins in, like a strange little sculpture.

Your trip looks fantastic.

(PS: I'm so glad you found my blog - I love yours ... and the JEWELS. Wow-o-wow.)

I love maps with pins in them. It reminds me of elementary school and the wonder I sometimes felt realizing how big and how small the world is at the same time.
